Hi, I’m Natalie Houchins

With a background in theater, film, and creative writing, I never thought I would have a career in tech.

After completing my undergrad, I spent 5 years in the entertainment industry as an actor and screenwriter (alongside bartending, nannying, tutoring, freelance editing and technical writing, ghostwriting, and whatever else I could find).

When I decided to transition to a more traditional work life, I landed a role as a content designer at Khoros.

I found that the skills and instincts I had honed as a storyteller—empathy, pacing, and clear communication—were assets. What I thought was a stopgap while I figured out my next move, ended up as my career, and I haven’t looked back.

At Mailchimp, I widened my design skills, learning fundamentals like content modeling, UX research, experience mapping, and more.

Now at The Knot Worldwide, I’m partnering with the design system team to manage the style guide and UX writing guidelines alongside my continued feature work. I’m shaping experiences for both sides of the vendor marketplace, connecting dots and providing cohesion for couples planning their wedding and the small businesses who make weddings happen.

Outside of work, I continue to write creatively and make indie film and theater. The rest of my spare time is spent with my friends and family, traveling at every opportunity, playing pub trivia (badly, but with great enthusiasm), and caring for a small brood of cats with my partner.

I was born, raised, and am now based, in Austin, TX.
